Abstract:
Wherever the mass media have been established, education has been put at the forefront of the fruits to be reaped or as one of the objectives. The thrust of this paper is to call attention to the problem of access to formal education in Nigeria and to highlight the potentials of the mass media in midwifing mass education in the country consistent with the Millennium Development Goal 2 and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It argues that by their nature, the mass media can be deployed in proffering solutions in achieving increased access to formal education in the country by leveraging on the potentials so as to obviate the problems of carrying capacity, dearth of infrastructural facilities, financing challenges and problem of poverty inhibiting access of most Nigerians to formal tertiary education.
