Paper Title:

Publised in OKO JOURNAL OF COMMUNICATION AND INFORMATION SCIENCE (VOLUME 3 NUMBER 1 FEBRUARY 2020)
Abstract:
The study investigates the use of purity FM health programme Gbochie Oria Iba in enhancing campaign against maternal mortality in rural areas of Anambra State. The main objective of the study was to assess whether the purity FM health programme Gbochie Oria Iba influences pregnant mother’s attitude towards adoption of best practices for preventing malaria scourge during pregnancy. The Health Believe Model (HBM) was used as the theoretical framework. The survey research method was adopted in carrying out the study. The 2,422,920 projected women population of Anambra State according to UNDP annual increase rate of 2.28% extrapolated from the National Population Commission (NPC), (2006) was used. A sample size of 399 was selected using the Taro Yamani formula. The purposive and multi-stage sampling techniques were used in selecting the actual samples. The questionnaire was the instrument of data collection. The study found among others that a more than two-third had maximal exposure to the purity FM Gbochie Oria Iba programme ; that the purity FM Gbochie Oria Iba programme has created reasonable awareness about malaria infection among pregnant mothers, but the programme has not helped in encouraging pregnant mothers to adopt best practices during pregnancy due to some reasons. It recommends among others that credible information is required to attract the needed response in radio health campaign. Also, Radio campaign messages must be continually and consistently made in order to reach many or more persons whose attitudinal change to malaria control measures is required. The producer of Gbochie Oria Iba should consider making it phone-in programme.
