This study tries to find out the similarities and differences between English and Igbo prepositions and how they affect the second language learners. The theory of Contrastive Analysis forms the basis for the study. The findings show that prepositions in the English language are more in number than those in the Igbo language; they also have specific functions in sentences, and the use of one preposition in place of the other often results in an error. The study has implications for second language learners because it will help them to understand the unique nature of English prepositions and how they are used. It is recommended that second language learners should make efforts to study the English prepositions properly, because such efforts will help to reduce errors that occur in second language learning and usage.
